What does it mean to be Ugly? What does it mean to be Beautiful? How do the pressures of society and appearance shape our stories?

Three accomplished student actors return to Buxton Fringe following their successes with their 2014 debut - "After Alice".

UGLY

What happens after 'happily-ever-after'? Tired of Cinderella stealing the spotlight, the Ugly Sisters finally get to tell their side of the story. It's angry, moving and Grimm. Princes and the patriarchy, glass slippers and glass ceilings - Ugly is no fairy tale... From two-time Fringe New Writing nominee Lilly Posnett.

The play catches up with the Ugly Sisters and Cinderella - reunited after "Fairytale Endings" weren't all they were cracked up to be. Of course, the Ugly Sisters are now blind after having their eyes bloodily pecked out by pigeons, and left with mutilated feet after going to desperate lengths to try and fit the glass slipper.

This twist on the classic fairytale explores themes of rivalry, hate, family and feminism through this fresh, contemporary piece. Physical theatre, monologue sections and stylised moments are interwoven to create a poetic, hard hitting narrative of society and fantasy, real life and fiction.

Ugly was perfomed at Underground Venues on July 8th, 9th and 23rd 2015, selling out on the final night.
